Smallholder farmers feed the vast majority of the world’s people, but industrial agriculture is the key driver of our globalized food system. There is ample evidence that the corporate-controlled agro-industrial food chain is depleting biodiversity, making us fatter and sicker, driving small farmers off the land, exploiting agricultural labour, poisoning our food, water and environment, and intensifying climate change and promoting use of high-risk technologies. This section highlights unsustainable practices associated with industrial food and agriculture, and examines corporate concentration in all sectors of the global food chain.
